Itinerary
Below is our planned itinerary for the trip, although we try our best to stick to our itineraries, occasionally it does become necessary to change things around a little bit due to the weather or the presence/lack of birds at particular sites during the time of our visit.
The day will be spent transferring to the east coast where we will be calling in on any interesting birds en-route and take a few comfort stops to break up the journey. There is a chance that we will visit either the Golden Oriole or the Honey Buzzard site on the way. The reed-beds and scrapes at the local nature reserves offer an interesting distraction to continue birding and we hope to end the day at least hearing a Grasshopper Warbler.
A full day spent exploring the best bird rich reserves such as RSPB Titchwell or Cley for Avocet, Bittern, Marsh Harrier and Bearded Tit but we will also be searching for locally common birds such as Turtle Dove and Nightingale. Many migrants should be around at this time of year and we should top over 100 species for the trip by the end of this day. We may even find ourselves in the Broads. Thousands of water-birds are found along the coast with interest from the sea in the form of terns and gulls. It is highly likely that we shall be calling in on any rarities in the area. If we have any spare time or can face any more birding we can pop out for a bit of dusk birding for Barn Owl, always a treat.
We could be faced with a lot of choices if there are many migrants around. We are hoping for a sighting of Montagu’s Harrier as they are found in the area most years and a visit to the Brecks for the Stone Curlews and Woodlark will add more great birds to the trip list. Another transfer day as we will be heading home. We have plenty of time to spend the morning birding in Norfolk at any areas not visited or taking in whatever birds are in England on the way home. We plan to arrive back in Gloucestershire at 1830.

Other Information
Some of Britain’s top reserves such as Cley and Titchwell will be visited. We shall be stopping to see any scarce or rare birds on the tour, birds like Spoonbill, Dotterel (two seen in 2004), Red-footed Falcon, Red-backed Shrike, Broad-billed Sandpiper, Temminck’s Stint (two in 2004); Purple Heron (one in 2004) and Bluethroat are found annually. Breeding waders, tern colonies, wildfowl, and passerines fill the days with great birding and the region is home to species that breed nowhere or rarely elsewhere in Britain such as Stone Curlew on the Brecks, Golden Oriole at Hockwold Marshes, Montagu’s Harrier and of course pinging Bearded Tits. At this time of year the days are long, some pre-breakfast and even post dinner birding sessions are always possible. Please bring RSPB and WWT membership cards with you

Clothing & Equipment
The climate should be fairly mild with the arriving summer months. It is best to bring suitable waterproof gear and waterproof boots. A fleece is also essential if we have any cooler days and for birding at dusk. Binoculars are essential, a telescope is highly desirable but Anser guides carry Swarovski or Leica telescopes which you can have a look through to study any birds. .
