Join us for an exciting birding experience in Canada’s best migration flyway, the state of Ontario. The trip is perfectly timed to see hundreds of thousands of migrants as well as resident and rare breeding birds and is a fantastic introduction to North American birds.
We will be exploring the world famous area of Long Point in Southern Ontario, one of the best migrant traps in the world! Here we should see at least 30 species of stunning wood warbler, 15 species of Sparrow (more bunting-like than our sparrows), the Nightjar-like Whip-poor will, hummingbirds, flycatchers, vireos, woodpeckers, and a good passage of raptors, all at very close range. We will also explore the area for flocks of migrating waders, Sandhill Cranes and rare breeding birds like the Cerulean Warbler.
We will then head east along Lake Erie taking in more top birding sites on the way to view the magnificent Niagara Falls. After taking in this spectacular waterfall we will transfer to view a large Caspian Tern colony and also to spend some time in typical Ontario farmland looking for birds such as Bobolink, Meadowlark, Eastern Kingbird and Savannah Sparrow.
After taking in this habitat we will penetrate further north into the Boreal forest of Algonquin National Park. Here you will get a real taste of Northern Canada with hundreds of miles of lakes and pine forests. Here we should see specialities such as Spruce and Ruffed Grouse, Barred Owl, Black-backed Woodpeckers, Gray Jay, Common Loon (Great Northern Diver), Moose, Beaver, American Otter, Muskrat, Black Bear and even Timber Wolf.
